Kansas City, MO – According to the court documents, the 29-year-old mom from Missouri, later identified as AIyssa, was sentenced to nearly a decade behind bars after pleading guilty to multiple charges, including child abuse and neglect. Prosecutors initially charged the woman with other felonies, but dropped the charges in exchange for her plea deal. The woman will now spend 9 years in prison for abusing her children.
According to the court documents, the investigation process began in March after the boy’s parents, AIyssa and her 30-year-old spouse, Joshua, left their 2-year-old toddler with a family member. The family member realized that the child was severely injured and maInourished and took him to the hospital. The responding officers discovered that the child had bruises all over his body. The little boy also had cuts and was severely maInourished. The responding officer wrote a statement, saying that the child looked like a ‘concentration camp victim, because he had sagging skin and almost no fat on his body.
The defendant’s family member, who was not identified, told the officers that they took the toddler to the hospital after his parents left the boy in their care. Authorities then launched an investigation which required visiting the family’s home. There, investigators discovered that the child was sleeping in a room with ‘rotten food and f-ces on the floor’. The child’s older sibling told authorities that she was burping for the last month and it doesn’t smelled good. When the child told her parents, they reportedly told her to ignore it.
The child also told investigators that their parents wouldn’t allow her to eat or drink water for a whole day. The girl also mentioned that her parents ‘always ate the good stuff’. According to the hospital staff, her 2-year-old sibling was diagnosed with multiple health problems, including acute kidney injury, battered-child developmental delays, developmental nonverbal disorder, and failure to thrive.
