Louisiana – A Louisiana woman, 21-year-old Sumer, was ordered to serve the next 8 years in prison after pleading guilty to multiple charges, including mansIaughter in connection with her child’s death two years ago. Authorities said the 1-year-old baby, Keinan, reportedly died from a fentanyI overdose and his mom was arrested last year at a motel in Mississippi. The baby’s dad, Adryan, was sentenced to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to a manslaughter.
The investigation process began in May 2023 after the 911 caller told the dispatcher that they needed medical assistance for 1-year-old child. The medical examiner told investigators that the child had meth-fentanyl and acetyl fentanyl in his system.
During the sentencing, the victim’s family member, who is the defendant’s sibling, reportedly told the court that her slster posted prvocative photos on social media advertised her expIicit page days after her child was found dead. The woman, later identified as KayIa, also told the court that her sibling ‘has no remorse and posted on social media and her expIicit page days after her son died.’
According to KayIa, her slster is proud of her lifestyle and always brags that her ‘sugar-daddy pays for her lawyers. The defence attorney argued that the child’s death was an accident. According to the attorney, their client client suffered from a severe drug addiction that impaired her better judgment.
Another adult, LezIie, was also indicted on a manslaughter charge in connection with the child’s death. She has a pretrial conference hearing on March 3.
The defendant’s mother, Tamie, said she feels the sentence was way too lenient: “Nobody knows her like I do, like her sister does like her brother, her brother does,” Abshire said. “And the three of us stood up there…immediate family to her and gave our heartfelt feelings about how we know Summer more than y’all do we know what she’s capable of? Know that she’s manipulating y’all. Eight years is not just when she’s going to get out and she’s going to have more children. And we don’t want that to happen.”
Originally, the defendant faced two decades behind bars, but representative of th DA’s office says the time was reduced to eight years after she agreed to cooperate with the state and provide material assistance.
