Louisiana – The Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission has passed several amendments to the 2025-26 hunting regulation notice of intent (NOI), including changes to duck hunting seasons and equipment regulations.
The amendments were approved during the commission’s March meeting in Baton Rouge on March 6.
The proposed duck hunting season dates for the West Zone are set for November 15 to December 7, with a second split from December 20 to January 25.
Youth-only hunting dates will be November 8-9, while veterans-only dates are scheduled for January 31-February 1.
In the East Zone, the proposed season will run from November 22 to December 8, with the second split from December 20 to January 31. Youth and veterans-only hunting dates for this zone will be November 15-16.
One amendment modified a proposed ban on remote cameras in wildlife management areas (WMAs), allowing their use year-round except during open turkey seasons.
Additionally, the commission voted to adjust the pintail bag limit, allowing hunters to take up to three pintails, with no more than one being female.
Changes to primitive weapon regulations were also approved. The updated rule allows weapons loaded exclusively through the muzzle or the muzzle end of the cylinder chamber, including those fired by wheel lock, flintlock, percussion cap, or centerfire primer. Previously, only black powder or approved substitutes were permitted.
The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) will hold a public hearing on the amendments on April 22 at 10 a.m. at LDWF Headquarters in Baton Rouge. Final approval for the NOI and amendments is expected at the May LWFC meeting.
