Louisiana – Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry has fulfilled a long-awaited promise to the family of Mary “Molly” Elliot, offering a statement of justice after nearly three decades of legal proceedings.

Molly Elliot, a 28-year-old advertising executive, was brutally carjacked, kidnapped, raped, and murdered on November 27, 1996, in New Orleans.

After leaving work and heading to retrieve her car at the Sheraton parking garage, she was taken by her attacker, Hoffman, who then forced her to kneel and executed her on a makeshift dock in St. Tammany Parish.

The brutal crime left Molly’s family and friends devastated, and they have spent the last 28 years fighting for justice. The road to closure has been long and painful, with many legal delays and setbacks.

Governor Landry made a statement following the resolution of the case, addressing the gravity of the crime and the importance of upholding justice:

“It is unfortunate that bad people exist, and they do real bad things. When these acts of violence happen, society must not tolerate it. God is as Just as he is Merciful; and my hope is that when Louisiana empties death row, there will never be another victim whose perpetrator must be placed there.

In Louisiana, we will always prioritize victims over criminals, law and order over lawlessness, and justice over the status quo. If you commit heinous acts of violence in this State, it will cost you your life. Plain and simple,” said Gov. Landry.

The family of Mary Elliot can now begin to move forward, knowing that justice has been served after nearly three decades of waiting.
