Houston, TX – According to the police officials, the 36-year-old mom, Denize, and the 40-year-old stepfather, later identified as GeraId, were taken into custody and later charged with injury to a child causing serious bodily injury by omission in connection with Denize’s 12-year-old daughter’s death. Police officials say the mother and the stepfather reprotedly failed to seek help for child’s injuries which ultimately led to her death.

The child died in hospital earlier this week, police officials say. During the investigation process, authorities discovered that the child suffered the fatal injuries four days before she passed away. Unfortunately, the mom and the stepfather didn’t seek medical help, but instead tried to nurse the child back to health. Police officials also say that the parents were trying to avoid attracting any external attention from law enforcement to their home.

During the investigation process, authorities reportedly discovered that the parents didn’t called 911 or took the child to the hospital, even after she was mentally and physically incapacitated and non-responsive for several days. The victim could only flutter her eyes and move her hands a little bit over a four-day period. The child’s mom called for help when her daughter went into respiratory distress. An autopsy will determine the cause of death, police officials say.

Police did not say how the victim’s injuries were sustained. Sheriff David released a statement, saying that he believed the parents thought they could nurse her back to health, but were trying to avoid attracting any external attention from law enforcement to their home. Both suspects are being held on $200,000 bond. Authorities also say that more charges could be forthcoming, following the autopsy results. The victim’s family members launched a fundraiser to collect money for funeral costs.
