Washington – A Washington man, 34-year-old Jessy, and his 26-year-old partner, ArabeIIa, were both sentenced to several years in prison after pleading guilty to multiple charges, including manslaughter and unsafe storage of a firearm, in connection with their baby’s death four years ago. Both parents were ordered to serve 70 months behind bars, while the dad also received 18 months of community custody.

The investigation process began in December 2021 after the 911 caller told the dispatcher that their baby needed medical assistance after suffering a gunshot wound. The responding officers realized that the child suffered a gunshot wound and rushed her to the hospital where doctors pronounced her dead.

During the investigation process, authorities in Washington discovered that the baby’s dad was going in and out the home while cooking dinner outside, while the baby’s mom was lying on the sofa in the living room, while on her phone. The victim’s mom told investigators that she didn’t like being near the gun and that it scared her.

During the investigation process, authorities determined that the father left his firearm unsecured, on the coffee table. The father initially claimed to putting the firearm on the shelf. Authorities later discovered the child reportedly pulled a jacket off the table, causing the firearm to fell down on the floor and fire.  The child then suffered a single gunshot wound to the torso, causing her death.

During the investigation process, authorities also determined that the baby’s dad placed his firearm on the coffee table where the baby’s mom was with their baby. While the woman was on her phone, her partner was walking in and out the home, preparing food on the grill outside. Both parents stopped when they heard the firearm go off. An autopsy later revealed that the baby died of a single gunshot wound to the torso.

Neither parent told police they saw the gun fall off the coffee table, only that they heard it go off. According to investigators, the mother was heavily focused on her phone at the time the gun fired, local news outlet King5 reported. The baby’s dad told investigators he carried the firearm for protection from drug addicts in the neighborhood.
