Louisiana – Governor Jeff Landry expressed his commitment to working with the Legislature to allocate permanent funding for domestic violence services, including shelters, in the fiscal budget.
For the past two fiscal years, the Legislature provided one-time funding for these shelters.
The Landry Administration aims to end this cycle of temporary funding by establishing a consistent funding base for essential domestic violence services.
Governor Landry emphasized his longstanding support for domestic violence services, calling them “necessary, life-saving, and essential.” He stated his determination to collaborate with the Legislature to ensure these services receive permanent funding rather than one-time allocations.
As a former law enforcement officer and Louisiana Attorney General, Governor Landry actively contributed to domestic violence prevention, including training thousands of law enforcement officers and criminal justice personnel. Commissioner Taylor Barras also reaffirmed support for a recurring fund to safeguard critical domestic violence aid in Louisiana’s state budget.
