LDWF announces beginner rainbow trout fishing courses ahead of annual stockings

by Erica Knowles

Louisiana – The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) announced its Beginner Rainbow Trout Fishing course, part of the annual Get Out & Fish! Rainbow Trout stockings. The program aims to equip anglers of all skill levels with the knowledge and tools to successfully catch rainbow trout.

The two-hour course, open to all ages, will include lessons on trout behavior, targeting techniques, equipment use, bait selection, and basic rigging. Participants will also enjoy an hour of fishing with guidance from LDWF biologists.

Each class, limited to 10 participants, will provide fishing equipment, though attendees are welcome to bring their own gear. Participants will receive starter tackle, bait, and informative materials, courtesy of Magic Bait and TakeMeFishing.org.

Anglers aged 18 and older must hold a Louisiana Basic Fishing Season or Hook and Line license, while those under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Licenses are available at [www.louisianaoutdoors.com](http://www.louisianaoutdoors.com).

Eight courses will be held at Get Out & Fish! ponds across the state, offering a hands-on opportunity to prepare for the trout stocking season.
