Louisiana – Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agents cited a North Louisiana man for alleged Wildlife Management Area violations on Feb. 19.
Robert Metcalf, 29, of Calhoun, was cited for not abiding by WMA rules and regulations on the Russell Sage WMA.
The incident began when a Russell Sage WMA technician reported two trucks stuck in mud on the WMA. Agents responded to the scene and found the vehicles off designated trails, in areas not meant for licensed motor vehicles.
Metcalf admitted to agents that he got one truck stuck on Feb. 16 and, in an attempt to retrieve it on Feb. 17, got another truck stuck.
The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) emphasized that WMAs are protected areas with strict regulations to preserve wildlife habitats. Unauthorized vehicle use, including off-road driving, can cause environmental damage and lead to legal consequences.
Violating WMA rules and regulations carries a fine of up to $350. Metcalf could also face additional charges related to damages to the WMA and the recovery of the vehicles.
