Louisiana – According to the officials, Louisiana State Police Troop L responded to a two-vehicle crash on US Hwy 51 near Anderson Road. The crash claimed the life of 82-year-old Wilbert Banks.
The investigation revealed that Banks was driving a 2000 Ford Ranger southbound when a 2001 Nissan Frontier, driven by 34-year-old Broderick McKnight, crossed the centerline and struck his vehicle head-on.
McKnight, who was unrestrained, suffered serious injuries and was transported to a hospital. Two unrestrained passengers in his vehicle sustained moderate injuries and were also hospitalized.
Banks, who was properly restrained, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Troopers determined that McKnight was impaired at the time of the crash. He was arrested and charged with vehicular homicide, driving left of center, driving on a suspended license, and not wearing a seatbelt.
Toxicology samples were obtained from both drivers as part of the ongoing investigation.
Louisiana State Police urge all motorists to avoid impaired driving, always wear seatbelts, and remain attentive behind the wheel, as responsible decisions can mean the difference between life and death.
