Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission approves proposal to extend wild alligator hunting season

Louisiana – At its monthly meeting on Feb. 6 in New Orleans, the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission approved a Notice of Intent to extend the wild alligator hunting season until Dec. 31.

The extension would apply to both the West and East zones.

If finalized, the season would run from the last Wednesday in August until Dec. 31 in the East Zone and from the first Wednesday in September until Dec. 31 in the West Zone. Currently, the season lasts 60 days.

Officials stated the proposed extension aims to increase harvest opportunities.

The full Notice of Intent can be viewed on the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries website.
