New York City, NY – According to the court documents, the 31-year-old suspect, later identified as Hasem, was arrested and officially charged with second-degree murder after he killed 56-year-old Marya in an unjustified assault. Prosecutors claim the sociaI worker was killed by the much younger man after he hit her several times before chasing her into a nearby apartment. 

The man then kicked and stomped the woman to death. The investigation process began in May this year after the 911 caller told the dispatcher that an assault occurred at the apartment. The responding officers found the victim unresponsive. The woman was rushed to the hospital where she died 1 month later. The medical examiner told investigators that the woman suffered multiple facial fractures and a brain bIeed.

The man was initially charged with attempted murder and assault charges, but those charges were upgraded this week. According to the court documents, the 31-year-old man is also  accused of murder with intent and murder committed in the course of another felony. When officers arrived on scene, the 31-year-old man reportedly yelled at the victim and falsely accused her of trying to stab him, court records say.

The suspect’s attorney reportedly argued that his client plans to file a detailed alibi, claiming he was not present during the attack. He is being held without bail and will return to the courtroom on Aug. 6 for a preliminary conference.
