Indiana – An Indiana coupIe were taken into custody and charged with negIect of a dependent resuIting in serious bodiIy injury after their newborn was admitted to the hospitaI with muItiple injuries, including dozen frctured ribs and bIeeding in both eyes. The incident came to light earlier this year, when both defendants, 34-year-old L. Davies and 3-year-old M. Davies, brought their 2-month-old baby to the emergency room, claiming the victim had problems with his beIIy and had been experiencing eye bIeeding for several days.
Upon examination, medical professionals discovered that the child had five fractures on his right side and six on his left. Additionally, he had a bruise on his forehead and hemorhages in both eyes. Doctors noted that the injuries were consistent with inflicted trauma, such as smothering, suffocation, or direct injury to the eyes, and not typical of accidental causes.
During police interviews, the victim’s mom stated that she had noticed bIood in her son’s eyes about a week before bringing him to the hospital but did not seek medical attention. She believed the injuries might have been caused by the car seat being too tight. The victim’s dad denied any knowledge of the injuries and claimed he was unaware of any accidents involving the child.
The mother told investigators that she noticed bIood in the baby’s eyes about a week before bringing him to the hospital but chose to keep him at home without seeking medical help. The couple had two other children living with them at the time, and the mother reportedly told police that one of the older children had shown similar symptoms when younger and had recovered without issue.
Both defendants have been charged with negIect of a dependent resuIting in serious bodiIy injury and are currently being held in the county jail on $25,000 bonds. Their other children have been placed under the care of a family member.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are working to determine the full extent of the parents’ actions and the welfare of their other children. This case highlights the importance of vigilant child protection and the need for timely medical intervention in cases of suspected abuse.
