Florida – An Ohio mom and dad, 30-year-old Katrin and 30-year-old K0di, were arrested and later charged with multiple charges, including involuntary manslaughter in connection with their child’s death in Florida last year. The fatal incident occurred three years ago in Florida after the parents used heavy sultcase to prevent their child leaving her portable crib only for the item to fell on the child’s neck and suffocate her to death. Both parents were taken into custody last week, while the mother was released on bond and the victim’s dad waived extradition and is being transported from Ohio to Florida.
The fatal incident occurred in 2022 on the grounds of a Florida AF base. The investigation process began in November 2022 after the couple called 911 and told the dispatcher that their child wasn’t breathing. First responders rushed the child to the hospital where doctors pronounced her dead. Authorities say the parents endangered the child by placing her in a portable playpen before placing a heavy suiitcase on top in an attempt to prevent the child from escaping.
During the investigation process, the parents reportedly told investigators that their youngest child had difficulties sleeping at night and often escaped her crib. According to the mom and dad, they were concerned about the child’s safety and bought a portable playpen. Unfortunately, the toddler was able to climb out of the playpen as well. The parents then decided to place a 50 lbs suiitcase on top of the portable crib in an attempt to prevent the child from leaving it.
On the fatal night, the father reportedly said that he put his 3 children to sleep. According to him, the 2-year-old victim made noise for additional 20 minutes before she stopped only for the father to assumed that the child was sleeping. The victim’s mom (SEE PHOTO) checked the children the following morning only to find her child unresponsive. According to her, the heavy suiitcase and other items were on the victim’s neck.
The Florida Department of Children and Families conducted an investigation, later stating that the ‘parents knowingly placed items over the top of the toddler’s playpen in an effort to keep her confined inside.’ According to the investigators, ‘although they were not doing it for discipline purposes, and although they were not willfully trying to harm her, their actions ultimately led to her demise.’ A GoFundMe campaign was created by a family friend to help the grieving family with the expenses for their baby girl’s funeral.
