Oklahoma – An Oklahoma woman, later identified as 25-year-old Jeanie, was convicted of multiple charges including child abuse and child neglect and later sentenced to 5 years in prison. The woman, who is currently in custody, is expected to be transferred to the U.S. Bureau of Prisons to serve her sentence. Her 24-year-old partner, Jakob, was previously found guilty of child neglect and was sentenced to 2 years in prison plus 5 years of supervised release. Both parents were sentenced in connection with the 2022 incident which left their baby seriously injured.
According to the court documents, the investigation process began in Oct. 2022 after the couple rushed their newborn baby to the hospital for treatment. When the doctors examined the baby, they realized that the child’s leg was broken in half. The hospital staff also realized that the baby suffered additional injuries consistent with abuse and notified the authorities.
During the investigation process, authorities in Oklahoma questioned the baby’s mom, who reportedly told them that she used too much force while changing the newborn’s diiaper and broke the baby’s leg. During the investigation process, the baby’s dad reportedly told investigators that he wasn’t present when his wife broke the baby’s leg, but realized that the child was injured when he arrived home, but didn’t seek medical attention for the baby. According to the court documents, the couple didn’t seek medical attention for their baby for 2 days.
Both the baby and another child were removed from the parents’ home and places with relatives. The 25-year-old woman is currently in custody and is expected to be transferred to the U.S. Bureau of Prisons to serve her sentence, while her husband was sentenced last year to 2 years behind bars and 5 years of of supervised release.
