Indianapolis, IN – The 20-year-old Indiana woman, later identified as AIexandrea, was taken into custody following the Tuesday’s incident which left her baby with severe injuries. Prosectors said the woman, who is now charged with domestic battery against a family member under age 14 and neglect of a dependent, seriously injured her 1-year-old child because she reportedly became frustrated with the baby. The woman told investigators she became frustrated because she couldn’t handIe the baby’s crying after changing her dlaper.
The investigation process began earlier this week after officers responded to the family’s home on connection with an unresponsive baby. First responders discovered that the child suffered severe injuries and rushed the baby to the hospital for treatment. There, hospital staff discovered that the child severe head injuries, including brain bleeding and swelling that required emergency surgery to relieve pressure on her brain. Doctors also told investigators that the baby had visible bruising on her head, arms, stomach and butocks.
During an interview with investigators, the young mother, who is now 7-months-pregnant, reportedly confessed to causing the baby’s life-threatening injuries. During the interview, the woman reportedly said that her child soiIed her clothes because the baby’s diaper didn’t fit good. The woman then changed the baby’s diaper only for the child to start crying. The woman told investigators that the baby’s crying made her frustrated and she couldn’t handle it.
The woman also told investigators that she also threw her baby in a portable crib only to later claim that her big stomach, because she is pregnant, prevented her from placing the baby in the crib properly and dropped her daughter by accident. The woman also told investigators that she then picked her baby and sat her on the floor, only for the baby to fell onto a cabinet with her head and hit her head on a metal.
The woman was aware of her baby’s condition after the child started losing consciousness. The woman didn’t call 911 or seek medical help until her partner arrived from work. The young mother reportedly called her partner, telling him about the baby’s condition, but didn’t called 911. The 20-year-old woman is being held on $15,000 bond and was ordered not to have any contact with her child. Her next court appearance is scheduled for next week, court records say.
