Ohio – An Ohio man was taken into custody and charged with one count each of feIonious assauIt, domestic vioIence by assauIt, and assauIt. The charges stemmed from a domestic incident that occurred last week at the family’s home in Ohio.
According to the Ohio authorities, officers responded to a 911 call reporting a domestic dispute. Upon arrival, they found the defendant’s, 20-year-old H. DaIton, 2-month-old unresponsive and struggIing to breathe while lying in his crib. The chiId was immediately transported to Nationwide Children’s Hospital, where medical staff discovered multiple brain bIeeds. Fortunately, the child is expected to survive and is under close observation by neurosurgeons.
The investigation revealed that the incident began when the defendant became angry after misplacing his smoking device. In a fit of rage, he allegedly kicked the famiIy animaI. The man’s girlfriend, who is also the baby’s mom, attempted to intervene and stop him, but he reportedly threw her to the ground and threw a fan across the room. Fearing for her safety, the girlfriend fled to the apartment’s leasing office and called 911. She also informed responding officers that the man had previously strangled and assaulted her.
Speaking about the morning of the assault, the mother said the man became angry when he woke up and could not find his va ping device. She said his anger grew when she did not help him look for it because she was caring for their baby, and when he saw that the family animaI had chewed some tissues in the home.
In response, he reportedly threw her to the ground, kicked the pet, threw a fan across the room, and threatened to kill both her and the child. She described his anger issues as having worsened since the infant’s arrival and said he appeared overwhelmed and easily irritated.
During an interview with investigators, he denied harming the child, stating that all he did was move the baby from the bouncy seat to the crib. He was taken into custody at the scene and transported to the county jail. He was later arraigned and remains in custody awaiting further legal proceedings.
Ohio authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident. They are working in coordination with County Children Services to ensure the safety and well-being of the child and to determine if additional charges are warranted. The department has not released further details as the investigation is ongoing.
