Illinois – An Illinois parent was taken into custody after she allegedly stabed her child inside their apartment. The 26-year-old woman, Lovana, has been charged with one feIony count of aggravated battery to a chiId under the age of 13 and is currently being held without baiI pending her next court appearance on June 13.
According to prosecutors, the incident occurred earlier this week after the parent reportedly became enraged upon discovering that her child, 7, had made a mess in the home she had cIeaned the previous night. She began striking the child, prompting him to flee and hide in a cabinet under the kitchen sink. Unable to get him out, the parent allegedly retrieved a large knife and stabbed into the cabinet until she heard the boy scream.
After realizing her son was bIeeding, the woman carried him to her mother’s apartment in the same building. The grandparent insisted that the child be taken to the hospital immediately. The 26-year-old parent transported her child to the hospital, where medical staff determined his injuries were severe, including a ruptured diaphragm and a stab wound to his left leg. He was subsequently airlifted to the Children’s Hospital for emergency surgery and remains hospitalized on a ventilator.
During the investigation, the parent allegedly admitted to hospital staff that she had stabed her son. She later told police that she was waving the blade around while trying to locate him under the sink and accidentally injured him. Prosecutors also revealed that the parent made a phone call from custody to her mother, urging her not to disclose the true nature of the incident and to provide an alternative account.
Authorities noted that the parent has a history of abusive behavior. Several years ago, she reportedly punched her mother in the face over a financial dispute, and later, she did the same to her sibling. The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services had investigated the parent in both 2023 and earlier this year, although specific details of those investigations have not been disclosed.
The knife used in the stabbing was recovered by police at the scene. She remains in custody, and the case continues to be under investigation.
