Florida – A Florida man is behind bars and is now facing multiple charges, including aggravated manslaughter, in connection with his child’s death last year. Prosecutors claim the defendant, later identified as 32-year-old Josshua, was the primary caregiver of his baby while his partner worked only to place the several months old baby in the tub and leave her with the water running while he was pIaying on his consoIe.
Authorities in Florida said the 32-year-old parent was taken into custody on Tuesday for the 2024 incident which left his baby dead. The investigation process began in April last year after the defendant called 911 and told the dispatcher that his baby was not breathing. First responders arrived on scene and pronounced the baby dead on the scene.
During an interview with investigators, the 32-year-old man, who was the baby’s primary caregiver while his partner worked, reportedly said that when his child became irritable, he reportedly put her in the tub before he went to the kitchen to grab her bottle. The man also admitted to leaving the water running while leaving the baby all alone.
When he later returned, he reportedly found the baby with her face down and immediately called 911. An autopsy discovered that the baby’s cause of death was an accidental drowning. During a follow-up interview, the defendant reportedly said that he left his child alone for just 2-3 minutes, but authorities later discovered that’s not true after reviewing his gamepIay records.
During the investigation process, authorities determined that the parent left his baby unattended for more than 10 minutes while he was on his gamlng consoIe. According to the police officials, the 32-year-old parent was actively engaged with his gamme moments before discovering his baby drowning. The 32-year-old man, who was arrested nearly 10 months after he called 911 from his home, is being held without bond, court records say.
