The 73-year-old woman from New Jersey, Michele Linzalone, shot her husband, Rocky Linzalone, on Monday. The woman reportedly told investigators that she was playing with her gun. After she shot her husband, the woman performed several internet searches concerning what happens when “you shoot someone in the head”, according to reports.
The 73-year-old woman is now charged with first-degree murder and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. Her husband reportedly suffered a series of strokes that left him physically disabled, making his wife his sole caretaker.
On Monday, officers and EMS personnel responded at the couple’s home after the woman called 911 and told a dispatcher that she had accidentally shot her husband in the head while the man was asleep, according to reports.
The woman reportedly told the dispatcher that “she was playing with the gun and it went off and hit her husband.”
The responding officers found the victim on the bed with an apparent gunshot wound to the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators asked the woman what she meant by ‘playing.’ She reportedly told them that she was aiming the firearm at her husband while he was sleeping and she pulled the trigger believing the gun was unloaded.
The 73-year-old woman also told investigators that she waited 30 minutes before calling 911 because she was in shock and wanted to get dressed and brush her teeth, according to reports.
Investigators searcher the woman’s cell phone and reportedly found that she had searched, “If you shoot someone in the head, will they die instantly?” “Do you die instantly from a gunshot to the head?” “Do you feel any pain at all?” and “Are hollow-point bullets more powerful?”
When investigators told the woman that she will be charged with murder, she reportedly responded, “If I was the only one there, how can they prove it wasn’t an accident,” per reports.
