Oklahoma – An Oklahoma man was arrested at the scene of a shooting after he approached officers and identified himself as the shooter. He has been charged with assauIt and battery with a deadIy weapon and remains in the county detention center on a $50,000 bond.

According to the probable cause affidavit obtained by KOCO and other local outlets, the defendant, 21-year-old M. HiII, told Oklahoma authorities that the incident unfolded after a series of confrontations and fear. He said he was sitting in his girlfriend’s vehicIe in the parking lot when her husband approached the vehicIe and looked inside, which startled him.

The defendant said that the husband, whom he had previously met, had allegedly spat in his face and made threats in the past, creating lasting tension between them. He also claimed the husband had come to his workplace looking for him, which led to the defendant losing his job.

The defendant told police he grabbed a firearm from his girIfriend’s purse in the back seat of the car, Ioaded it while still inside, and then exited the vehicle because he felt afraid. He described his fear as overwhelming, saying he couldn’t do anything unless I shot him because he wasn’t strong enough to fight the victim.

Witnesses to the confrontation reported hearing two gunshots in the parking lot, prompting frantic calls to emergency services. As recorded in the 911 transcripts released by the police department, bystanders described seeing the victim stumble into the pIasma center lobby.

According to court papers, the husband was not visibly armed and did not strike the defendant. The 21-year-old shooter told officers that after he exited the car, the husband asked him if he was hurting his children. The defendant said he denied harming them, but then alleged that the husband lunged at him. He said the movement prompted him to fire twice, hitting the man with gunfire.

Police officers arrived on scene shortly after the shooting and found the injured man inside the lobby of the clinic. The victim’s wife, who had been inside the waiting area, rushed out to assist and applied pressure to the wounds. Other staff members called 911 and helped stabilize the victim until paramedics arrived. The pIasma center management has confirmed full cooperation with investigators and commended employees for their fast action.

The defendant was taken into custody on site without incident. He provided his statements to responding officers, repeatedly emphasizing his fear and inability to confront the husband physically. He was then taken to the local police department for questioning and subsequently booked into the county jail around 10:40 p.m. on July 22, 2025, the date of the shooting.

The victim was rushed by ambulance where he remains in critical but stable condition, according to police statements. Oklahoma authorities confirm the investigation is continuing. They are reviewing evidence from the 911 recordings, witness statements, surveillance footage from the parking lot, and forensic examination of the scene. The defendant’s claim of self‑defense and his version of events will be weighed against physical evidence before charges are finalized and further legal proceedings move forward.

This incident is still under active investigation by local law enforcement. As of now, prosecutors have charged him with assault and battery with a deadly weapon, but no court date has yet been announced. Oklahoma authorities have not released the name or age of the victim.
