Texas – A Texas man was arrested last week and charged with second-degree assauIt with a deadIy weapon following a vioIent incident that left a 44-year-old man severeIy injured. The assauIt occurred at a residence in Texas. According to the affidavit, the victim had been stbbed in the face, causing him to Iose his Ieft eye, and his Ieft hand had been se vered from his body and could not be located.

At approximately 4:22 a.m., officers responded to a report of a stabbing at the address. Upon arrival, they discovered the victim on the front porch, suffering from multiple stab wounds and the severing of his Ieft hand. A tourniquet was applied at the scene to control the bIeeding before the victim was transported to a local hospital for emergency medical treatment.

Investigators followed a bIood trail from the scene to a nearby residence. After obtaining a search warrant, they entered the home and found two men inside, along with physical evidence confirming the assauIt had occurred there. The defendant, 19-year-old Deroiyce, was arrested and charged with aggravated assauIt with a deadIy weapon. The second man at the scene was determined not to be involved and was released.

During a police interview, the defendant admitted to the assault, stating that he cut the victim’s hand off. He further claimed that an animaI had attacked the victim and that he was acting in self-defense. Texas authorities found no evidence of an animaI at the scene or injuries to the defendant that would support his self-defense claim. He was observed acting erratically during the interview, laughing and stating that he did not want to talk further, requesting a lawyer.

Texas authorities said that a witness at the home, who was not identified, told police they heard the defendant arguing with the victim before waking up and noticing blood on the floors, according to the affidavit. The 19-year-old man allegedly fled the scene and was later located at a nearby residence. The witness told investigators that the defendant seemed to believe the other man had taken something from him. The 19-year-old man allegedly claimed the victim had attempted to steal from him.

During the police interview, the defendant was asked to recount the events. He responded by asking what else the officers thought had happened, then described how he cut the man’s face and stabbed his eye and shoulder. Police reported that the two had been drinking and were fighting over an item the defendant believed had been taken from him.

As of August 4, 2025, the victim’s severed hand has not been located, and the investigation remains ongoing. The defendant is currently being held in the county jail with a bond set at $500,000. If convicted, he faces a prison sentence ranging from 2 to 20 years
