Florida – A Florida woman was taken into custody last week and is now facing multiple charges, including chiId negIect causing great bodiIy harm. This arrest stems from a Nov. 2023 incident, where her baby was found unresponsive and suffering from severe injuries. The defendant, 22-year-old KeIIy, was booked into the countyjail and released on a $5,000 bond. Her arraignment is scheduled for August 28, 2025.
Florida authorities launched their investigation after the parent and her partner, R. Raid, were reportedly the last adults seen with the 3-month-old. At approximately 6 a.m., the defendant’s mother discovered the baby unresponsive and pale.Upon examination, the infant was found to have bruises on her stomach and was not breathing. The mother initially claimed that the bruises were caused by an animaI jumping on the child.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene and transported the infant to a local hospital. Medical staff observed that the child was seizing and unresponsive, with her stomach covered in bruises. Doctors later diagnosed the infant with brain injuries consistent with shaken baby syndrome. The child remains on a feeding tube and is unlikely to regain basic functions such as sight, speech, or mobility.
Investigators noted that the living conditions in the home were unsanitary, with bugs and insects present. The woman’s partner, who is not the child’s biological father, suggested that the bruises might have been caused by rats in the house. However, medical experts determined that the injuries were not accidental.
According to Florida authorities, the defendant and her partner arrived at the family’s home around 10 p.m. and left at least once with the baby before 2 a.m. Several people lived in the home, and residents gave varying accounts of what happened that night. Some questioned whether the boyfriend should stay, noting concerns about him around children, but he stayed overnight. At times, the mother, her baby, and the partner were outside in cold temperatures, which alarmed residents.
The baby went to sleep between 2 and 3 a.m. in a frantic state, crying and swinging her arms. By 8 a.m., some residents noticed the child was lethargic and paIe, though others said she appeared normal. EMS was not called until nearly 11:40 a.m. Scratch marks and bruises were noted, and a small animaI was suggested as the cause, though responders doubted this.
Police later had the mother call her partner while listening in. She asked if anything happened while she was absent. He denied harming the baby and refused a lie detector test, claiming he would not intentionally hurt the child. Medical reports confirmed life-threatening injuries consistent with Shaken Baby Syndrome.
The woman’s partner, who had a separate case in which his one-month-old daughter’s arm was allegedly broken by another woman, described the mother as careless and often preferring to be away from her baby. The mother provided her own account, but investigators noted inconsistencies in her statements.
The defendant’s arrest followed an extensive investigation. She faces felony charges of child neglect causing great bodily harm. The defendant’s partner is also facing charges in connection with the case, though his whereabouts and specific charges have not been publicly disclosed.
