Shreveport Police urge safe holiday choices amid rise in domestic violence calls across the city

Shreveport, LA – The Shreveport Police Department is urging residents to make safe choices during the holiday season as officers continue to see a significant rise in domestic violence incidents across the city.

According to police, officers have responded to nearly 3,000 domestic violence-related calls for service so far in 2025, marking an increase of nearly 10 percent compared to the previous year. That trend continued over the recent weekend, with multiple arrests made in connection with domestic violence cases.

Police reported the following arrests:

  • On December 21, just after 9 p.m., John Thomas was arrested and charged with one count of domestic abuse battery.

  • On December 20, just after midnight, Kaitlyn Long was arrested and charged with three counts of domestic abuse child endangerment and one count of domestic abuse battery.

  • On December 19, just before midnight, Kameron Durden was arrested and charged with one count of domestic abuse child endangerment.

  • On December 19, around 7 p.m., Bryan Brown was arrested and charged with one count of domestic abuse battery and two counts of resisting an officer.

  • On December 21, just after 8 a.m., Xavier Blackwell was arrested and charged with domestic abuse battery.

Police emphasized that each incident represents a dangerous situation with potentially lifelong consequences for victims, families, and especially children. Domestic violence calls also place responding officers at significant risk, and the emotional and physical impacts often extend far beyond the initial incident.

The Shreveport Police Department said it remains committed to holding offenders accountable and protecting victims, while reminding the public that domestic violence often occurs behind closed doors.

Anyone experiencing domestic violence, or who knows someone who may be, is encouraged to reach out to local resources or law enforcement for help, as early intervention can save lives.
