Nevada – A Nevada man, identified as 19-year-old Joshva, was arrested and charged with multiple offenses, including murder with a deadly weapon, after allegedly shooting and killing a man earlier this week. According to authorities, the suspect claimed he killed the man because he “knew he had to kill him” after the victim reportedly admitted to setting someone on fire in the past. The incident occurred outside a liquor store, and the victim’s identity has not been publicly disclosed.
The investigation began when a 911 caller reported that someone needed help outside the liquor store. First responders arrived at the scene and found the victim with a single gunshot wound to the head. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, and his body was covered with a sheet.
During the investigation, police discovered surveillance footage showing the victim with another man shortly before he was killed around 3 a.m. A few hours later, officers at the scene were approached by a man who suspected his son was involved in the shooting. The father of the alleged shooter told police that he and his wife were awakened around 3 a.m. by noises coming from their son’s room.
When they asked him what was happening, the 19-year-old reportedly said, “Daddy, I think I killed someone.” The defendant handed his parents a handgun, and they decided to wait until morning to discuss the situation, as he was intoxicated and not making sense. Later that morning, the parents saw news coverage about the homicide and began to believe what their son had said. The father then went to police and informed them of the conversation.
Authorities quickly located and arrested him. During an interview with law enforcement, the defendant allegedly revealed that he had been having intense thoughts about killing someone, especially when he was intoxicated.
The day before the shooting, the defendant reportedly became intoxicated and decided to steal money from his parents. The next day, he attempted to withdraw money from their account but was unsuccessful. Feeling frustrated, he went to the liquor store, where he claimed to have seen people wearing white clothes whom he believed were following him. This paranoia led him to return home and retrieve a gun before going back to the store.
The defendant told investigators he grabbed two firearms and walked back toward the bank to look for the men and found the victim walking on the sidewalk wrapped in a white hoodie and asked him if he saw anyone in the area, according to the report.
The victim said no and asked if he could use the defendant’s phone to call the hospital. He said he told the victim there was a hospital across the street and offered to walk him there, but the victim wanted to go to a different hospital, the report stated. They began walking together and engaged in a conversation.
During their conversation, the defendant allegedly confessed to the victim that he wanted to kill someone. In response, the victim reportedly admitted that he had experienced similar feelings before and that he once set someone on fire. According to the defendant, hearing this confession solidified his belief that he needed to kill the victim.
The suspect then told the victim that he was going inside the store to get a drink. Instead, he walked behind the victim and shot him in the head, killing him instantly. During his interview with investigators, the defendant claimed that he felt compelled to kill the victim after hearing about the past incident.
Authorities arrested the 19-year-old, and he is currently being held without bond. He faces multiple charges, including murder with a deadly weapon. His next court appearance is scheduled for April.
Investigators continue to gather evidence and interview witnesses to determine the full sequence of events leading up to the fatal shooting. The victim’s identity remains undisclosed, pending notification of next of kin.
