Shreveport, LA – Shreveport Police Department investigators have arrested a suspect in connection with the July 27 shooting death of 16-year-old Hailey McDonald.

Officers responded around 1:40 a.m. to 1727 N. Market Street, near Superior Smoke Shop, where McDonald was found with a gunshot wound to the upper body. She was transported to Ochsner LSU Health by Shreveport Fire Department medics, where she later died from her injuries.

Investigators determined that a large crowd had gathered in the shopping center parking lot prior to the incident. During the gathering, multiple vehicles exchanged gunfire, and McDonald was struck during the exchange.

On August 18, 2025, an arrest warrant was issued for Jon Darius Scott, born June 15, 2000, for illegal use of weapons in connection with the case. On August 29, 2025, Shreveport Police Homicide Unit detectives, with assistance from the U.S. Marshals Task Force and Special Response Team, executed a search warrant and took Scott into custody without incident. He was later charged with second-degree murder.

The Shreveport Police Department thanked the U.S. Marshals Task Force and Special Response Team for their assistance and extended condolences to McDonald’s family and loved ones.
