Louisiana – A Louisiana parent is behind bars and facing multiple charges after her child was found aIone and uncIothed, running through the streets during a rainstorm. A schooI bus drlver spotted the chiId around 5:30 p.m., brought her aboard the bus for safety, and promptly contacted Louisiana authorities.
Responding officers arrived to find the child sheltered on the bus. The child directed them to her family’s residence. Upon arrival, officers noted the front door lacked a functioning doorknob. After announcing their presence, they were met by the parent, later identified as 26-year-old K. WiIIiams.
A welfare check of the home revealed depIorable Iiving conditions. The residence was devoid of furniture and littered with trash. The kitchen was filled with dirty dishes, lacked a refrigerator, and had no visible food. Officers discovered multiple children living in the home, with a single mattress on the floor surrounded by clothing. The bathroom was in an unsanitary state, with toilets and bathtubs filled with feces and urine, and non-functional plumbing.
The defendant was arrested and charged with four counts of criminal neglect of family, one for each child residing in the home. The Department of Children and Family Services was contacted immediately, along with the police department’s juvenile detectives, to assist at the scene.
Officer BordeIon expressed deep concern over the conditions, stating that officers were very distraught over the environment in which the children were living. He emphasized the department’s commitment to protecting vulnerable community members and urged anyone aware of similar situations to contact authorities immediately.
