Shreveport, LA – In the early hours of Sept. 26, a high-speed chase in Caddo Parish, Louisiana, resulted in the arrest of a motorcyclist who attempted to evade law enforcement, according to Sheriff Henry Whitehorn Sr.

Just after midnight, Deputy Vaitkus, a Caddo Parish K9 handler, observed two motorcycles committing multiple traffic violations at the intersection of North Market and North Port Boulevard. When the deputy attempted to stop them, both riders fled northbound at speeds exceeding 100 mph.

One rider, identified as 25-year-old Logan C. Smith, crashed while making a high-speed turn onto LA Hwy 173 South. Smith initially tried to pick up his motorcycle and continue fleeing but ultimately abandoned the vehicle and approached Deputy Vaitkus. After ignoring verbal commands to get on the ground, Smith was apprehended with the assistance of K9 “Snoop.”

Smith received medical treatment at Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport for injuries sustained during the crash and K9 apprehension. He was later transported to the Caddo Correctional Center and booked on multiple charges, including aggravated flight from an officer (felony), reckless operation of a vehicle, improper display of license plates, and switched license tags.

The second motorcyclist remains at large, and authorities said the investigation is ongoing.
