by Erica Knowles

Shreveport, LA – The Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office will host its annual Citizens’ Academy from July 1 to July 29, 2025, offering local residents an inside look at law enforcement operations.

Classes will be held every Tuesday evening from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Sheriff’s Safety Town, located at 8910 Jewella Avenue.

Open to adults 18 and older, the Citizens’ Academy is designed to strengthen community relationships and enhance public understanding of the sheriff’s duties.

Participants must be U.S. citizens, possess a valid driver’s license or state ID, have no felony convictions, and successfully pass a background check.

They must also provide their own transportation to multiple sheriff’s facilities, including the Caddo Correction Center, the CID Building, the Caddo Courthouse, and the Caddo Regional Training Academy.

The comprehensive curriculum covers a wide range of law enforcement topics, including:

  • Community Relations & Safety Town: Learn how deputies engage with local residents and students through community outreach.

  • Patrol Operations & Specialized Units: Discover the work of patrol officers and specialized teams like K-9 and SWAT.

  • Criminal Investigations & Crime Scene Procedures: Gain insight into how detectives investigate crimes and handle forensic evidence.

  • Caddo Correction Center Operations: Tour the correctional facility and understand daily operations.

  • Firearm Safety & Training: Receive hands-on instruction in firearm safety and basic law enforcement training techniques.

The program provides a unique opportunity for citizens to engage directly with law enforcement professionals and better understand the challenges and responsibilities of public safety work.
