Shreveport, LA – On the afternoon of September 19, 2025, Shreveport Police Department officers responded to gunfire near Booker T. Washington High School, resulting in the arrest of two armed individuals.

Officers were on campus for an unrelated matter around 1:30 p.m. when they heard a series of gunshots. A lockdown of the school was immediately initiated to ensure the safety of students and staff. Additional patrol units were dispatched as the sound of gunfire continued.

Through a coordinated effort with the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office, officers located Walter Houston, 34, and Omarion Shepherd, 20, walking near 2030 Looney Street.

Two firearms were recovered nearby. Further investigation by the SPD Violent Crimes Unit determined both individuals had fired weapons in the backyard of the residence, which is within a firearm-free zone due to its proximity to the high school.

Houston and Shepherd were arrested and charged with illegal use of a weapon and violation of the firearm-free zone statute. No injuries were reported. Law enforcement officials credited the rapid and coordinated response for preventing harm and securing the campus.
