Louisiana – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development is advising motorists that the $123 million I-20 major rehabilitation project in Bossier City is now entering its final phase.
Construction crews have completed the removal of the old outside travel lanes and have begun the process of rebuilding these lanes along the entire stretch of the project, from near Hamilton Road to Industrial Drive.
In addition to the lane reconstruction, the project includes significant drainage improvements, including the replacement of numerous drainage structures throughout the area.
At present, the ramps at the Old Minden Road and Industrial Drive interchanges are closed to accommodate the ongoing roadway reconstruction. Both interchanges are expected to reopen in late April or early May once the new outside lanes are completed.
Following the reopening of these interchanges, construction will shift to the next interchange, with further updates to be provided as that work progresses.
Currently, the project is 74% complete, with an expected completion date of late 2025 or early 2026, weather and other conditions permitting.
Motorists should be aware that commercial motor vehicles (CMVs), such as 18-wheelers, are currently prohibited from traveling through the work zone (from Hamilton Road to Industrial Drive) due to narrow lane widths. This restriction will be reevaluated as construction progresses and new lanes are constructed. CMV drivers are encouraged to use the primary detour route via I-220 to avoid delays.
Through travelers are also urged to utilize I-220 to bypass the construction zone and reduce travel time.
