Louisiana – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announced continued progress on the Jimmie Davis Bridge replacement project, with significant work advancing on the LA 511 (Jimmie Davis Highway) approaches.
Motorists should expect intermittent closures of either the northbound or southbound entrances of Medical Drive for approximately the next two months. These closures are necessary to place piping related to the widening and realignment of LA 511.
Construction on the new four-lane bridge over the Red River is also moving forward, focusing on the bridge foundations. The new bridge is being built just north of the existing two-lane structure.
Extensive dirt work is underway to shape the new on and off-ramps that will provide access to the future bridge. Phase 1 work also includes building raised medians along LA 511, revising the median barrier along Arthur Ray Teague Parkway near the bridge, and creating median openings for U-turns in future phases.
Alternating lane closures along LA 511 will continue to facilitate safe construction activities. Drivers are urged to remain attentive to project signage.
More information, including detailed phasing layouts, is available on the Jimmie Davis Bridge project webpage.
The entire project is expected to be completed by mid to late 2027, weather and other conditions permitting.
