Louisiana – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development has announced the start of a major roadway improvement project along the heavily traveled US 80 corridor in Bossier Parish.

The $8.4 million asphalt overlay project is now underway in the east Bossier City and Haughton area, targeting a five-mile stretch of road that sees significant daily traffic.

Crews have already begun laying new asphalt near the Louisiana Downs Racetrack, one of the busiest sections of the corridor.

DOTD officials emphasized that this part of the project is a priority due to the high traffic volume and the need to improve driving conditions for commuters and commercial vehicles.

The overlay work includes milling, patching, and repaving operations designed to extend the lifespan of the roadway and improve safety and ride quality.

The contractor is currently working under favorable conditions, and progress is expected to continue steadily barring any major weather delays.

DOTD estimates that the entire five-mile project will be completed by early 2026, weather permitting.

Motorists are encouraged to be cautious while traveling through the construction zone and to expect periodic lane closures or delays as the project moves forward. DOTD officials remind drivers to observe posted speed limits and remain alert for workers and equipment in the area.

For ongoing updates about the project, DOTD encourages the public to visit their official website or follow their social media platforms.
