Louisiana – Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agents cited two Houma men for alleged commercial oyster harvest violations in Terrebonne Parish.
Gabriel Gomez-Luria, 31, and Luis J. Zarraga-Flores, 46, were both cited for failing to comply with oyster logbook and refrigeration requirements.
While on patrol in Quitman Bayou, agents observed Gomez-Luria and Zarraga-Flores actively harvesting oysters in separate vessels.
During inspections, agents discovered that neither of the men had properly filled out their oyster harvest logbooks, which resulted in violations of the oyster logbook and refrigeration requirements.
According to regulations, oyster harvesters must maintain and accurately complete logbooks, documenting the time and temperature of harvested oysters to ensure compliance with refrigeration requirements. Failure to follow these guidelines can result in fines of up to $25 per offense and potential loss of the harvested product.
Senior Agent Joel Rubio, Lt. Gerald Sander, and Agent Carl Reed were involved in the enforcement efforts.
