Louisiana – Troopers from the Louisiana State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit recently met with Gulf Coast Express Carriers and Quality Carriers Inc. to lead a comprehensive safety session focused on commercial motor vehicle operations in high-risk areas such as work zones.
The safety talk, held in St. Gabriel, highlighted the critical challenges commercial drivers face in these zones — including narrow lanes, sudden stops, and shifting traffic patterns — while reinforcing best practices for safe navigation.
Troopers also delivered training on how commercial drivers can identify and report signs of human trafficking, an increasingly important aspect of road safety education. Participants were given actionable strategies to support victims and assist law enforcement in ongoing efforts to combat trafficking across transportation networks.
Additionally, the session covered key elements of the Compliance, Safety, Accountability (CSA) program, including topics such as unsafe driving, hours-of-service regulations, driver fitness, substance use, vehicle maintenance, hazardous materials compliance, and interpreting crash and inspection report data.
A highlight of the event was a live demonstration by Trooper Jeremy Bell, who conducted a walk-around driver and vehicle inspection for attendees. Trooper Bell, who recently won the Louisiana State Police Inspector Challenge, will represent the state later this year at the CVSA North American Inspector Championship.
These outreach events are part of LSP’s ongoing mission to improve roadway safety, foster industry collaboration, and ensure Louisiana’s commercial motor vehicle operators are equipped with the knowledge and tools to operate responsibly.
