Louisiana -The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development has announced the opening of “Segment 2” of the LA 3241 highway project, an 8-mile stretch of new, four-lane state highway connecting Talisheek to LA 36 near Hickory Creek.

This addition, combined with the previously opened “Segment 3,” now provides over 13 miles of express, toll-free roadway linking communities along Lake Pontchartrain’s Northshore to towns such as Bush, Sun, and Bogalusa.

The full LA 3241 corridor, stretching approximately 20 miles from Bush to Interstate 12 near Lacombe, is a major infrastructure investment with an estimated total cost of $220 million. The project features modern traffic safety designs, including J-turns and roundabouts, which help reduce cross-traffic, decrease delays, and improve traffic flow and safety.

Segment 2, which began construction in early 2022 at a cost of $63 million, connects the LA 435 corridor in Talisheek to LA 36. Segment 3, the 5.6-mile portion linking Bush and Talisheek, was completed in 2024 after construction began in 2021, costing $46 million.

The remaining portion, Segment 1, will connect LA 36 to the I-12/LA 434 interchange. Preparatory work such as grubbing and utility relocations are underway, with construction expected to begin after bids are solicited in December. Segment 1 is projected to cost between $110 million and $120 million.

Once complete, the LA 3241 corridor will offer safer and more efficient travel for residents and businesses throughout the Northshore region.
