Shreveport, LA – A traffic stop conducted by Shreveport Police on July 19 resulted in the arrest of a passenger who refused to comply with officers’ commands, according to a department statement released on July 20.
The incident occurred near the intersection of West 70th Street and Louise Street. Police reported that during the stop, a passenger identified as Ladarius Small repeatedly refused lawful orders to exit the vehicle.
After continued noncompliance, officers deployed a Taser to gain control of the situation. Small was safely taken into custody and charged with resisting an officer.
The driver of the vehicle was cited for possession of marijuana.
Police used the incident to emphasize the legal precedent that allows officers to instruct both drivers and passengers to exit a vehicle during a lawful traffic stop.
Citing Pennsylvania v. Mimms and Maryland v. Wilson, officials noted that refusal to follow such commands may lead to arrest under Louisiana Revised Statute 14:108.
The department reiterated its commitment to public safety and encouraged cooperation during traffic stops to ensure the safety of all parties involved.
