Louisiana – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development has announced that the $101.7 million project to extend Nelson Road and construct a bridge over Contraband Bayou in Calcasieu Parish is progressing well.

The project is currently 30 percent complete, with Johnson Brothers Construction—the project’s contractor—nearing the completion of critical structure work below the bridge decks.

This includes piles, footings, columns, and pile caps on the south side of Contraband Bayou. Ongoing drainage work is also part of the current phase.

Crews are scheduled to begin driving piles north of Contraband Bayou next week. In preparation, the temporary working platform on the north side of the bayou has been completed, and work on building pier protection is underway.

When completed, the new bridge will connect the high-traffic Nelson Road to West Sallier Street, providing a vital link for the area.

The project is expected to be completed by early 2027, weather permitting.
