Shreveport, LA – The Shreveport Fire Department is inviting the community to join in celebrating the start of the 2025 Camp I’m Still Me on May 31. The event will be held at three local fire stations from 9 a.m. to noon.

Camp I’m Still Me is a free, weeklong summer camp for children aged 5 to 17 who have survived burn injuries. Founded in 1992 by burn specialist Dr. Kevin Sittig, the camp is held annually in Scottsville, Texas, and has become a cherished experience for young burn survivors throughout the region.

The camp provides a safe and welcoming environment where campers can participate in traditional summer camp activities like games, crafts, swimming, and fishing. More importantly, it fosters emotional healing by connecting children with others who have shared similar experiences.

A 3:1 camper-to-counselor ratio ensures that each child receives personalized care and support, and adult burn survivors often serve as counselors, offering hope and inspiration to the younger campers.

The camp is staffed by a team of dedicated healthcare professionals and firefighters, many of whom volunteer their time each year to support the mission of bringing joy and healing to these resilient children.

On May 31, local residents will have the chance to visit three Shreveport fire stations to learn more about the camp, meet some of the volunteers and staff, and show support for the campers as they prepare for the experience. The fire department encourages families to stop by between 9 a.m. and noon to help send off the campers in style.

The locations of the participating fire stations will be announced in the coming days on the Shreveport Fire Department’s official channels.

Camp I’m Still Me continues to be a vital resource for burn survivors and their families, offering both fun and meaningful connections. The Shreveport Fire Department’s ongoing involvement highlights the department’s commitment to the physical and emotional well-being of the children they serve.
