Shreveport, LA – A death initially classified as a hit-and-run is now being investigated as a homicide, following the arrest of a suspect by Shreveport Police.

On June 28, 2025, officers responded to the 2100 block of Laurel Street, where the body of an elderly woman was found in a vacant parking lot. While early evidence pointed to a traffic fatality, further investigation revealed signs of intentional harm.

Detectives identified a suspect vehicle and, through coordination with Claiborne Parish authorities, arrested Anthony Edwards. He has been charged with second-degree murder.

According to police, Edwards was known to the victim, and evidence indicates the act was deliberate.

“This case is a tragic reminder of how quickly lives can be taken through senseless violence,” said Shreveport Police Chief Wayne Smith. “We are grateful for the hard work of our detectives and the partnership with Claiborne Parish authorities in bringing this suspect into custody.”

The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Shreveport Police Department at (318) 673-7300 or provide anonymous tips through Caddo Crime Stoppers at (318) 673-7373.
