Shreveport, LA – The Shreveport Police Department has responded to nearly 1,800 domestic violence-related calls in 2025, marking a 15% increase from last year and nearly 20% from 2023.
More than 250 arrests have been made so far this year, though police say enforcement alone will not solve the problem.
On Thursday, Chief Wayne Smith, Councilwoman Tabatha Taylor, and Mayor Tom Arceneaux joined elected officials, government agencies, support groups, and community partners for a forum aimed at tackling the root causes of domestic violence and strengthening protections for victims and their families.
The meeting generated new ideas to improve access to resources for those in need. Police officials expressed appreciation for the participation of every individual and organization involved, emphasizing that collaborative efforts are key to making a lasting impact.
