Shreveport officers continue community walks through East Cedar Grove as part of block-by-block initiative

Shreveport, LA – Shreveport Police officers spent Saturday walking through East Cedar Grove alongside city officials and employees as part of the department’s ongoing Block-by-Block Initiative, a community policing effort that focuses on face-to-face interaction in local neighborhoods.

Led by Chief Wayne Smith, the walk was intended to build trust, encourage conversations, and show residents that officers are present, engaged, and listening to community concerns.

Under the initiative, SPD officers visit a different neighborhood each weekend, leaving patrol cars behind in favor of foot patrols and direct outreach.

Department leaders say the walks are meant to strengthen relationships and emphasize that effective policing starts with being a visible part of the community.

The department thanked residents who participated in the latest walk and said it remains committed to serving the city one block at a time.
