Shreveport, LA – A Shreveport man is facing multiple charges after police say he fired a gun during a domestic dispute and attempted to flee the scene in a U-Haul truck early Monday morning.

Just after 2 a.m., Shreveport Police responded to a domestic disturbance on East 71st Street. A woman reported that Jonathan Monroe, the father of her 4-year-old child, fired a shot inside the home during an argument and fled in a rented U-Haul truck.

Officers described the suspect’s choice of getaway vehicle as less-than-subtle, comparing the bright orange and white truck to an “Orange Creamsicle.”

Not long after leaving the scene, Monroe contacted authorities, claiming he was nearby but denied any knowledge of the U-Haul in question. Officers quickly discovered the rented truck just down the street from the residence. Inside were Monroe’s personal belongings — and a firearm that appeared to have been recently discharged.

When confronted with the evidence, Monroe ultimately confessed to the shooting and his attempt to flee. He was arrested and charged with violating a protective order, illegal use of a weapon, and being a felon in possession of a firearm. According to police, Monroe is a multiple-time convicted felon, and the woman had an active protective order filed against him.

Thanks to the quick response of patrol officers, no one was injured during the incident. The case was resolved swiftly, with Monroe now facing significant charges.

Shreveport Police took a lighter tone in their social media update on the arrest, but the underlying message remains clear: protective orders and firearm laws are taken seriously, and even the most outlandish attempts to escape won’t stop justice from catching up.
