Shreveport Police Department fosters community engagement through Citizens Police Academy

Shreveport, LA – The Shreveport Police Department is highlighting the positive momentum coming from its Citizens Police Academy, a program aimed at strengthening relationships between officers and members of the community.

In a statement shared Tuesday, the department praised the most recent group of academy participants, calling them a “dedicated group of citizens” helping to bridge longstanding gaps between law enforcement and the public. The program is designed to offer community members a closer look at police work, create space for dialogue, and build trust through shared understanding.

Each evening of the academy has become a space for productive conversations and relationship-building, according to the department. Officers and participants engage in open discussions about policing, public safety, and the challenges and responsibilities faced by both the community and the police force.

“Every night, we see something powerful happening,” the department said. “Conversations, connections, and common ground are being built between our officers and academy participants.”

Officials say the initiative is more than just a public outreach effort — it’s a sign of real, tangible progress in community engagement. By providing residents with the chance to experience aspects of police training and decision-making, the academy hopes to foster mutual respect and deeper understanding on both sides.

The Shreveport Police Department continues to encourage community involvement, saying efforts like the Citizens Police Academy are essential to building a safer, more united city.
