Shreveport, LA – The Shreveport Police Department provided new details regarding the shooting that resulted in the death of Martaevion Loston.
The incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at a park in the 500 block of East 79th Street at Line Avenue. Investigators with the Violent Crimes Unit determined that Loston fired the first shot.
A 15-year-old then returned fire, fatally wounding Loston. The juvenile has been charged with possession of a firearm by a juvenile and possession of a firearm in a city park.
Detectives are working with the Caddo Parish District Attorney’s Office to determine if homicide charges will be filed. Footage from the Real Time Crime Center, which captured Loston firing first, played a key role in the investigation.
The department continues to urge parents and guardians to discuss the dangers and legal consequences of firearm possession with their children, emphasizing that juveniles and firearms do not mix.
