Shreveport Police host regional training to combat illegal firearms

Shreveport, LA – The Shreveport Police Department held a large-scale joint training session on Wednesday aimed at identifying altered and illegal firearms. The event brought together more than 150 law enforcement professionals from over 25 agencies throughout the region.

The training was conducted in collaboration with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office, the Shreveport City Marshal’s Office, the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the LSUS Police Department, and the Caddo Parish District Attorney’s Office.

With more than 3,500 illegally possessed firearms seized by SPD over the past three years, officials say the need for improved investigative strategies and interagency coordination is critical. The training focused on techniques to recognize firearm modifications, trace illegal weapons, and strengthen prosecutorial efforts.

ATF Special Agent in Charge Joshua Jackson was among the lead instructors. SPD extended its thanks to Jackson and all participating agencies for their support in what officials described as a united effort to enhance public safety.

“Together, we’re working to make our communities safer,” the department said in a statement.
