Shreveport police identify suspect who fled traffic stop after giving fake name

Shreveport, LA — Authorities have identified a man who allegedly fled a traffic stop last week after providing officers with false information, according to the Shreveport Police Department.

The incident occurred on May 22 in the area of Sun Tan Street, where officers attempted to conduct a routine stop on a vehicle reportedly being driven recklessly. According to investigators, the driver initially complied and engaged with officers, but gave a false name when asked to identify himself.

Body camera footage captured the interaction, including a clear image of the suspect’s face. Before officers could complete the stop or verify the driver’s information, the man reportedly sped away from the scene.

After reviewing the footage and conducting a follow-up investigation, police identified the suspect as Gentry Jones. Authorities say Jones has active warrants out of Dallas, which may have contributed to his decision to flee the scene.

The Shreveport Police Department is now asking for the public’s help in locating Jones. Individuals with information are encouraged to contact the department directly at (318) 673-7300 or provide anonymous tips through Caddo Crime Stoppers at (318) 673-7373. A reward may be available for information leading to his apprehension.

As of Friday, no additional details about the nature of the active warrants or the initial traffic violation have been released. The investigation remains ongoing.
