Lousiana – A 22-year-old man from Boyce was killed in a single-vehicle crash early Wednesday morning in Rapides Parish, according to Louisiana State Police.
Troopers from LSP Troop E responded to the scene around 5:00 a.m. on June 18, where they found that a 2013 Ford Mustang had crashed on Louisiana Highway 28 near Navy’s Way. The driver, identified as Nicholas J. Baggett, was pronounced dead after being transported to a local hospital.
Preliminary findings indicate that Baggett was traveling westbound when he failed to navigate a left-hand curve. The vehicle exited the roadway, entered the westbound ditch, and struck a concrete culvert. The impact caused Baggett to be ejected from the vehicle.
Authorities said it is currently unknown whether Baggett was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. Toxicology samples have been collected for analysis, and the investigation is ongoing.
Louisiana State Police reminded the public that while not all crashes are survivable, proper seat belt use significantly reduces the risk of serious injury or death. They urge all drivers and passengers to always buckle up.
