Jacksonville, FL – According to the police officials, the 25-year-old dad, later identified as Eddrick, was taken into custody and later charged with first-degree murder and aggravated child abuse after he reportedly killed his baby by hitting the infant with knee. Police officials said that the investigation process began after the father called 911 and told the dispatcher that his baby was not breathing. First responders rushed the baby to a hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.
Shortly after the arrival at hospital, doctors discovered that the baby had injuries on his face and shoulder. The medical examiner told investigators that the child suffered severe trauma to the head and multiple internaI injuries. The medical examiner told investigators that the baby’s injuries reportedly occurred by intentional manner just before the baby died. The infant baby also had broken ribs, that were healing, and broken jaw. The cause of death was severe bIunt force trauma.
During an interview with investigators, the baby’s dad reportedly said that he fed his son for 20 minutes before joining his partner in the shower. It wasn’t immediately clear if that’s the baby’s mother. When both returned to the baby’s room, the baby was not breathing. When authorities told him about the injuries, he reportedly admitted to ‘unintentionally hitting his baby’s head on a furniture before hitting the baby’s head with his knee ‘because he tried to prevent the infant from falling out of his arms.’
But, during a follow-up interview with investigators, the 25-year-old dad reportedly confessed to purposefully hitting the baby’s head with his knee several times because the infant was crying and it caused him to become nervous. The dad reportedly told investigators that he agressively drove the baby’s body down onto his left knee before delivering at least two knee strikes to the back of his head. According to court documents, the dad reportedly confessed to the crime in a letter, in which he apologized to his actions.
