Kansas City, MO – According to the police officials, the 18-year-old defendant, later identified as Carrter, was arrested and later charged with multiple charges, including first-degree murder and armed criminaI action after he reportedly shot his adoptive parent in the head, killing him. The 41-year-old victim, John, suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation process began after the 911 caller told the dispatcher that he shot his parent in the head. The 18-year-old didn’t give his location to the dispatcher, but authorities were able to get the location of the victim and the shooting. The responding officers arrived at the location several minutes after the call and met with two women in the driveway who were screaming.
The victim’s body was found inside the residence. The victim suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim’s wife, who is also the shooter’s adoptive mom, told the responding officers that she was sleeping when a gunshot sound woke her up. The woman then walked downstairs and realized that her husband had been shot. Her son then gave her the riffle and reportedly told her that ‘he had to do it’.
The 18-year-old shooter was found one block away from the crime scene. He was taken into custody and is being held without bond. Formal charges were filed by the DA’s office and the shooter entered a not guilty plea, court records say. Prosecutors released a statement, saying that the defendant killed the man who adopted him.
